Robert Griffin III won the Heisman trophy tonight. There is finally some great things happening with our football program, create a alumni and fan following (called Baylor Nation) and to help many show their pride in their school. It is amazing how when just a few things fall into place like a great coach (Art Briles- which yes a friend of ours came as to Lance's costume bash birthday party) and several good players who work well together as a team (RG III, Kendall Wright, Terrance Ganaway to name a few) can bring a whole family/ group/ mass audience together to support a program and university that has been looking for something to boost support, boost pride, boost alumni, etc. This is a time that we have not seen for the bears since the 1980's. This is a time where we can brag that we attended Baylor University. This is a time where we can proudly say..... "Sic' Em Bears!!!!!!!"

What's been happening...

Well I went to New York to visit my cousin and her family. It was so much fun to see and experience the city how they see it everyday as resident New Yorkers. Here are just a few of my favorites from the trip just to give you a taste.

This is my cousin Monica who does everything by foot in New York with a 3 1/2 year old and pregnant. I know I know she is amazing and should pretty much be your hero like mine. I am not sure I would be as upbeat, pleasant and such a great host if I was in her shoes. She is pretty great and opened up her home and daily life to me with a smile every day!

I think this picture is neat because she looks beautiful pregnant, we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and back and the city where their second beautiful baby girl (name to be determined) will be born in.

This is her funny, independent, and cute 3 1/2 year old Elle and I one day at the Central Park Zoo.

It was smurf week in NYC while I was there and each day in a different part of the city the smurf village was put up. Elle enjoyed her "smurf juice".... well it looked more like colored water but it was supposedly blueberry flavored. At least she let me snap a picture of her.

We ate delicious food the whole time I was there!!! But this was at a really good Indian place called Sapphire. The food was so good and very flavorful.

Anyway I had a great trip came home under not so great circumstances but was thankful for the time I spent with my cousin and her family before they became a family of 4. I learned a lot, had great conversations and experienced the city in a completely different way. Overall it was a great trip. Only down side was during our trip Costa Rica had a tropical depression in the area and it rained more each day than typical (of course we were there it had to rain more). The resort we stayed at was great and all-inclusive- even better. We spent some time on the beach, and in the pool, and reading under the huts. Overall just relaxing and and enjoying some time together.

Lance on the beach.... pre "Scuba Steve" adventures in snorkeling.

The hot springs we went to on our excursion to the rain forest. They were GREAT... especially since we were freezing after a horseback ride through the rain forest on horseback. (Pretty sure after the horseback ride it will be a little while before we are able to have children - ha ha ha. it is not like riding horses in Texas)

This was Lance and I on the zip lines in the rain forest. The trek home from Costa Rica to Miami and finally to DFW made for a really long day of traveling but it was nice to have a week with my husband all to myself. This is what my mother wanted to do for mother's day. So we took her to "bungee jump" as she referred to it and then took her to Rosa's for lunch (where she wanted to go). Overall it was a great day and my mom managed to do 2 flips. She was thrilled she had us all home.

3. The Fort Worth Zoo came to visit our kids at the development center it was lots of fun

These were my FAVORITE animals they brought.... the penguins!!! We even got to hear them talk and see how they said hey to each other.... it was GREAT!!!!!!

We had other animals like the blue and gold macaw, a baby alligator, an opossum, a skink, snake, and and a humongous dog just to name a few. The kids LOVED it!!! For The 2 of US!

So Lance got up this morning and decided he was going to do some work in our yard to help fertilize and get things ready for the "lush" green lawn he and our neighbors have been discussing. I decided that since he was going to Home Depot that we should go ahead and get some of the other things we were needing to complete the tasks I had wanted to do to our flower bed. WELL.... that said I wanted to take out the disgusting little holly bushes the builder had planted that Lance and I both hated, add some new bushes, and new mulch through out. Plus some new flowers for my big cement pots. My sweet husband agreed and then spent the entire day working himself to death in our front yard with me.
<img style="display:block; Did you know that if you are a patient in a hospital and have Alzheimer's the staff requires that someone sit with the patient at all times... who knew and I worked in a hospital?!?!

2. First birthday parties are really fun when the birthday boy or girl is really into the cake and makes a mess.... Cade was not so much into the cake as he was the frosting (which he promptly smeared on the window and windowsill as well as the blanket we had him sitting on.)

3. Working with young children 3-5 years old in special education - they DO NOT know how to cover their mouths and noses..... which despite your best efforts leads to you getting sick. In my case it was the flu type A (YUCK!)

4. Having lots of make up on makes my face itch especially my eyes!

5. It is difficult to kindly tell someone to suck it up and stick to their guns if it is something important to you.... unless you are my mother (ha ha ha love you mom!!!!).

6. Our dog has become very expensive since the beginning of the year all due to his back end....

7. I will be able to cover all of our deductible for our insurance all on my own at the rate I am going this year.

8. Battling high blood pressure is interesting.... especially when the doctor makes you take meds, stay on a meal plan and exercise plan. At least I have that under control at the moment and are not headed for a stroke between 35- 45. So that is awesome.

9. Nursing is a tough job but if you get a good one you should thank your lucky stars and them while you are at it.

10. Breaking up a full on brawl at a high school is kinda like being a rodeo clown! Trust me I know.

That is all I have got right now and the nurse has come into take Lance's Pop's vital and I probably should pay attention.

What a month it has been...

These are some fun pictures from some happenings the past 2 weeks or so....

We had a great visit this past weekend from one of our great friends (minus his fiance' who was studying for a test all weekend). ENJOY!!!

So I got this great all white serving bowl with handles and all weekend the guys thought it was hilarious to wear my bowl on their heads... this was the only picture I was able to catch of them.

I love this guy... what a friend in Zeb.

Zeb and Lance... ENJOY! So Lance and I do not have children yet but we do have a dog.... and today our four legged boy turned 3 years old. Time has really flown since we got him. He is still so loving and playful... one might think he was still a puppy. We had a small family celebration just mom, dad and hitchers (Lance and I and our puppy). He got a new toy (a green rubber wrench) and a flavored raw hide bone. Watching him prance around our house with them and play with them you would have thought he won the lottery.

Softball - update 1

Alright well the guys are playing softball at a nice ballpark in Euless. They are playing in the "E" league which is supposed to be the easiest/ least experience/ fun grouping to be in. According to the "regulations" this is the league we should be playing in..... some of these teams playing however I think forgot this is supposed to be fun. They are overly competitive and some shall we say do not have the best sportsmanship. But our guys go out every Thursday night and still try to have fun. I think they are planning a team practice or team trip to the batting cages now before their next game. I thought I would post a few pictures that we have so far. The guys are currently one of three teams in the "E" league that are 0-4.... our goal: TO WIN ONE GAME! I believe if we are one of three teams with this record the Hometown Heroes can surely win one!!! Enjoy the pictures more to come now that I have borrowed my Dad's nice 35mm camera that has a ZOOM lens.

~OK so our Internet truly SUCKS!!!! I have been trying to post the other pics for over an hour and it is running so slow it is worse than dial up and won't upload the pictures. I will try again tomorrow.

Emergency Room twice in one week... and elected team mom!

We are both doing fine.... I had an issue with a kidney stone two Sundays ago and Lance had to take me to the ER. He survived and was wonderful and very supportive. I have since passed the stone and Lance is thankful I am not crying and rolling around in a chair in pain. He said that was the worst part was knowing I was in such pain and there was not really anything he could do for me but hold my hair and a barf bag and try to get me into triage a little faster. Poor guy!!!! But he was wonderful and I would not have made it with out him. Funny thing was that I passed the stone like usual once I knew what it was and had some medicine. Well Lance is playing on a softball team with some friends from his hometown on Thursday nights. The following Thursday (after the stone attack) a guy on Lance's team got hit in the face with a softball. It broke his nose and I was back in the emergency room with him in the same week (I had to drive him since his fiance was not there - of course it is the one game she could not come to.... she met us at the ER) So I have now been elected team mom/ care taker. In return for the hilarity in the title I now take capri suns, gold fish and my first aide bag to every ball game. I think I am being prepared to some day have children. I just did not know that my trial run set would be between the ages of 25-36 (mostly 25-29 with one 36 year old). Oh a week in the life of the Langner family. We will keep you posted.

The Lee side is.... Lance gave me my birthday present early and thanks to that I should have some great pictures to post soon... any guess as to what I got? I am planning a surprise trip for Lance to celebrate our first anniversary.... Let's just say he is going to be surprised and amazed how much work I put into it..... all he knows is he will need his golf clubs and we are flying into Sacramento.

Lance passed his group 1 licensing exam on the first try and we are quite proud of him.... I am not sure what group or series is next but we will try to keep you posted. Although he is working a lot Lance still seems to find time for a little fun. He is planning his annual trip to Minnesota with the guys. So hopefully if he brings some back we will have a few good pics to post.

Ok so enough on the update. Let me just inform you of Lance's and I's recent fish out of water experience. So we were invited to a birthday party at a sporting goods store. But it was not just any birthday party it was a 4 year olds birthday party. Let me interject with Lance works with the mother and we do hang out with their family. Well Lance and I begin shopping for the birthday present and let me tell you it is not easy to find camo to fit such a small boy.... trust me I have looked. Needless to say we settled on some camo pants to go "hunting with daddy" in. Ethan was thrilled when he opened it. I digress.... Lance and I arrive about 5 minutes late do to the fact that I could not seem to find clothes to fit to wear. We are the ONLY people there and I mean ONLY people there with out children. When this fact was pointed out to the birthday boy himself he said we could stay but we could not feed the fish or play games as they were for the kids but we had to promise to eat cake and give him the gift we were holding. We agreed and he took off running with the present and was determined to show us his cake - a camo cake. He was so excited and full of energy. Who knew a 4 year old could have so many best friends as he did that day.

That being said all the kids and their respective parents headed down to the fish pond to learn about trout and feed the fish. As we had been instructed Lance and I stood on the side and did not feed the fish. Then we took all the kids on a walk through of the exhibit and up to play the shooting game. As stated before we did not play the game however we were requested to help the birthday boy climb up, hold the gun, put in the tokens and help him win the game. Needless to say it was great birth control or child birthday experience so we at least know what to expect next time. You either come with kids in tow or come ready to help, eat cake and bringing a present.... Anyone up for a 4 year old birthday party? Looking forward to the 5 year old party it should be entertaining.

Long Over Due Update

Well.... we have finally finished putting together our house. Lance had to mow the yard for the first time and we are one of the few people on our block with green grass. Yes Lance has been playing yard boy and fertilizing our grass and with all the rain lately we have a lush green yard. However the neighbor behind us took her mower to the "repair" shop. My husband being the nice guy he is offered to help her out and mow her yard for her while they are repairing the mower.... after excepting his kind offer she informed him that they would have it for 5-6 weeks! Where in the world did she take the mower that it might take 5+ weeks to repair you might ask... to a bike repair shop. Seriously a bike repair shop no wonder it will take 5 or more weeks they will have to look up how to fix it. After laughing at the situation Lance headed out to mow our yard and the neighbors for the first time.

I figured since he was outside being "manly" in the yard I would help him out and start the work we needed to do in the flower beds.... so I manually (yes manually) pulled out 5 bushes that were in our flower bed. After that I was exhausted and in need of a good chiropractor so we now have a somewhat bare flower bed awaiting new plants.

Hitch is trying to help us with the landscaping tasks by digging in the backyard. We play this fun little game where Lance places rocks (more like boulders- these are not small rocks) around the edge of our fence and then Hitch moves them through out the day. When he is done with that job he begins his daily digging. He likes to dig up our sprinkler pipes just to see what they look like. He does not chew on the or hurt them he just uncovers them..... and then stands there like "look mom and dad- see what i found today" He is a mess but keeps life entertaining. Hitch also experienced his first snow this past winter. He LOVED it we could not get him to come in out of the snow. He chased, ran in it, buried his nose in it. It was a sight to be hold and great for a laugh.

As far as the family goes... we have finally finished adding all the newest members. 5 new babies and I must say we have the most beautiful and good baby additions. They are: Hayden, Elizabeth "Elle", Cade, Addisyn and Avery. I think that most of them already know that Aunt Katharine and Uncle Lance are there favorites.

Now that things are more flexible and time is not so strained we will keep this updated more frequently.

Not much new.....

Approaching 3 months of marriage we thought it would be good to post an update....
We are both working a lot, Katharine works long hours as usual and Lance is working long hours due to his branch being short employees at the moment. Life is busy but entertaining to say the least. We have for the most part moved completely into out house. We still have some boxes in the garage to finish unpacking so we can get cars in there but over all we are home.
We recently took a trip to Tyler to visit Lance's grandparents. We had a great time and enjoyed the weekend with family. We celebrated both of his grandparents' birthdays, his mother's birthday and valentine's day. During our stop we hung out with some of our good friends and saw their new house.
Life is routine but busy. We are walking and playing ball with "Hitch" and enjoying the time together. We got a new family member on the 21st. Katharine's cousin Monica gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. We will keep you posted with any new updates and fun happenings. We have several weddings coming up and should have some stories from those to share with friends and family.

Married Life

So far so good we have survived our first month of marriage and here is what I know.....

Honeymoon in Mexico

We are both still alive

The honeymoon was incredible!!! We had the best time and almost hated to come back.

We went to Chichen Itza (Mayan ruins) on a tour one day - our bus got a flat tire on the way back and they handed out Tequila shots to all takers.... it was an interesting bus ride.

We had moon light massages on the beach - which were awesome.

Lance is a huge fan of all inclusive resorts. He really likes to enjoy a great meal and at the end be able to get up and leave and know the check is taken care of.

Lance loves iguanas apparently..... we have a ton of pictures of iguanas!

I need to slow down and pay attention to what I am doing with my camera- I deleted the first two days worth of pictures from our honeymoon due to lack of attention. (It is OK though Lance and my dad got me LARGE memory sticks for Christmas)

Everywhere we turned in Mexico we were getting a bottle of champagne

Much more....

Our First Christmas (MARRIED)

Trying to hit all parts of our families during the one day we had off was tiring, fun, good and possibly a bit much.

Christmas Eve after I got off work we headed to Cleburne to do Christmas with Lance's family. They were lots of fun and seeing the kids play with their presents was entertaining. Needless to say I was under the weather and had soup for dinner.

Christmas Morning we hit up breakfast bright and early with my Mom and Step dad. Charlie made a fabulous spread before my stepbrother had to head back to Oklahoma. Needless to say Hitch gets along great and plays well with Georgia (my brother's great dane), Lexie (Charlie's dog) and Rip (my mom's dog)..... he does not play well with the boxer my step brother brought home with him that he was watching for his roommate..... you don't think it could have anything to do with the fact that they are both not neutered males do you???

Lunch- with my mom's family....... good food, good times, and laughter were had by all.

Dessert- with my dad's family...... white elephant gift exchange, family making fun of my married life is like a giant slumber party comment. Lance picking a present so I could have 2..... pretty good.

Dinner and Christmas lights with my Dad- we did present, had a "snack" (we were still full from lunch) and we went to see the Giant Angel in West over Hills.

Then we headed for home to sleep before getting up the next morning for work!

Overall

Lance is still eating my cooking (when I have time to cook)

We are both still alive and well

We are enjoying each other's company

I go to bed earlier than he does and work long hours.......

Love is a great asset to have

Being married is so far GREAT and I highly recommend it!!!!

I will post more information and pictures soon...... now that we have the Internet at home it will be easier. Happy New Year!!!!!!!

ONE WEEK!!!!

This is a picture of our FIRST HOME..... Lance and I are in the midst of the last minute details and "duties" that have been assigned. The excitement is building and we are very ready. Lance is more ready to be at the reception enjoying the "party" and on his honeymoon. I am more ready to celebrate and finally be married to Lance!

The wedding is pretty much all set and the last minute details are being worked out. Lance is only working Monday through Wednesday and I unfortunately am working through Thursday. But it will definitely make time fly by..... I will blink and Friday will be here before I know it. The house is coming along. Lance's parents came up on Friday and helped unpack, hang things and break down all the boxes we had unpacked so far. I will post pictures once things are more put together. We are close to being ready for overnight guest if we have any takers.

I will try to post more information later this week...... Ok so here is the update from recent events:
Lance and I decided to rent a house for a year, found a great house in Keller and filled out the application on Thursday (3 weeks ago). Lance faxed in the application on Friday and the lady at the rental office called to tell him she would process the application on Monday. Great we thought we will have the keys towards the end of October and can start moving things in..... Well God decided to show us his sense of humor! On Saturday morning Lance and I both went to work (yes we ironically had to work the same weekend). Wes (Lance's roommate) called Lance at work at about 10:30a stating he had a house come across his desk- brand new with almost all the things Katharine wanted in a house. The builder is trying to get it off their inventory QUICK so check it out and get back to him ASAP. Lance reviewed the information Wes had sent him and thought it looked like a possibility.... remember we currently had an application in on a rental house. Well Lance tried to call me about 6 times but I had left my cell phone at home that day and he does not know my work number nor would he have caught me at my desk it was a VERY busy Saturday. Anyway I called him back after work and he kept asking how soon can you get to my house I have something I need to show you......

I made it to Grapevine very quickly thinking something was wrong with Lance or Hitch. Lance told me about the house we went over and looked at it even though Lance had already met the builder over there and looked at to see if it was anything we should consider farther. I LOVED THE HOUSE!!!! We would have plenty of space and it truly had everything but one item that I had asked Wes to look for in a house for us. Well Lance and I called my parents to come up and look at it and we sent pictures and information to his parents (they could not come because his Dad was 1-2 days post knee surgery). Everybody agreed that this was too good of a deal to pass up and that the house was perfect for Lance and I so..... We returned to the builder's office on Sunday and signed a purchase agreement. Two weeks after seeing the house for the first time (this past Tuesday October 30) we closed on our very first home.

So if you missed the humor or intervention here it is in a nutshell.... I had been a little stressed out trying to get all the wedding plans done and find a house that Lance and I could agree on, in an area we like, etc- we finally decided to submit to God's desire and rent a house and low and behold once we did that and felt better he showed us his funny side and gave us the house we had been looking for all along with a deal we could not pass up!

Lance and I are now home owners and in the process of trying to get moved in little by little so it will be ready for us when we get married. Or bachelor and bachelorette parties were in Austin on the same weekend but our friends did a great job and we never ran into each other. We have had a wonderful time at all of our showers. We only have two left before we get married. Things are running pretty smoothly with wedding plans and getting appliances delivered to the house. Overall things are great and Lance and I are truly BLESSED (to say the least)!!!

Another day..... Another thing marked off "the list"

Well each day we are getting one more item marked off our to do list. This past weekend Lance sat for hours and I do mean hours and assisted me with getting all of our invitations addressed (hopefully they will be out by Thursday). We have decided to try and rent something for a year or so that we have time to find what we want or try to build. The options are endless at this time.

Lance is surviving in Keller.... not real sure how much he likes being the only boy there but he is doing alright. We had our first shower and it was a lot of fun. The lovely ladies in Cleburne did a excellent job and the shower was wonderful. Lance was excited to get some of the items he picked out at the Cleburne stores. I thought it was fun to get some of the items for our kitchen and home decor. I had a small helper (Lance's cousins little girl Alyssa) to open all the gifts. She thought we were having a birthday party.

The whole crew is meeting with the organist and the wedding coordinator this week to try and nail down some details. Hopefully some of the things I am wanting to see happen with the wedding will be possible. Work is going good I am staying really busy with all the inpatient unit. Having fun getting things accomplished..... stress has increased a little but not to bad. I have had lots of help getting things done for the wedding and do not know where I would be with out Lance and I's moms or Lance!! He has been a trooper.

Keep you posted as things progress.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://thelangnerfamilylancekatharine.blogspot.com/2007/10/another-day-another-thing-marked-off.html' title='Another day..... I feel the more we look the farther we are from a decision. Do we try to live closer to my job or Lance's job? Which way is less time in rush hour traffic (oh wait I go to work way before rush hour begins so that is not really a factor for me).... the list of questions continues.

Lance and I had to finally sit down and lay out exactly what elements we are both wanting in a house and start the process over together. Now that the list of what we are wanting is complete the trick is trying to find a house that we can make a home that meets at least some if not most of the requirements. Man who knew it was sooooo very tough to be an adult. Adulthood should come with a manual.

At the end of this week we will be down to 2 months until our wedding day and our first big shower in Cleburne is this coming weekend. I can honestly say I am getting excited and can't wait.... Lance did mention this weekend that he is getting more and more ready to live with me and is just ready to actually be married...... so ladies after 7 years there is hope that a guy can be excited or looking forward to a wedding. I will keep you posted as developments occur.......

Lance has selected a new branch to head to in October!!!!! He is going to be in Keller and I will be in Southwest Fort Worth so we are going to look for a house somewhere in the middle. Waco was fun..... no birds though. Hitch did not run at the sound of the gun but would not exactly swim in the tank so, Lance is not really thinking so highly of our "hunting" dog at the moment. But I still LOVE the puppy!
I am taking my dress to the tailor in the morning (Saturday) for my first fitting... I am very excited. We have set most of our shower dates and needless to say October and November just may the 2 busiest months of my life - it should be fun!
We will keep you posted as we make more decisions!

Lance finally popped the question in December of 2006.... So we are getting "hitched" December 1, 2007. The count down has begun we are under 100 days until the big day. We will officially be part of the married crowd in my family! So that is kind of exciting. We passed our 7 year dating anniversary in August. We have one crazy, large lab named "Hitch" and I am hoping in a year when we have a house and have been settled a little Lance will let me get a girl puppy.

I started a new job working inpatient rehab in a 62 bed unit. Lance has begun the interview process to transfer to a new bank brach with in his company. We are headed to Waco this weekend to see my brother, the boys will hunt and the girls will of course shop! Will keep you updated on the wedding and fun showers that are in the works now. Until later.......
